Walter C. Deckert Jr., 80, of Southington passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday June 20, 2013. He was the loving husband of Bonita (Lewis) Deckert for nearly 47 years.

Born October 19, 1932 in Southington to the late Walter C. Deckert Sr. and Bertha (Reinhard) Deckert, he had been a resident of Pittsfield, Maine for over 30 years before returning to his childhood home in Southington in 2011.

Walter proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He loved his work as a farmer in Maine. He was an avid football and racecar driving fan. Walter will truly be missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Bonita, he is survived by his 4 children: Donald R. Deckert and his wife Jenifer of Maple Valley, WA; Debra Deckert of Pittsfield, ME; Donna Handoe and her husband Frank of Fort Lewis- McChord, WA; Daniel W. Deckert of East Kirkland, WA and his grandchildren: Nicholas Deckert, Ryan Handoe and Ridge, Rhenna, Ryan and Rusty Lawn. He also leaves behind his 3 sisters, Esther, Carol and Joyce Deckert, all of Southington.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 26, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 26, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial with full military honors will follow in South End Cemetery, Southington. There are no calling hours.
