Virginia (Gilbert) Wade Harris, 95, of Southington passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 16, 2010 at home where she was lovingly cared for by her son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Diane Wade.
Born in Tacoma, Washington on May 25, 1915 to the late Robert and Kathryn Gilbert, she moved to NYC at the age of 19 to continue her education and pursue a musical career. Accomplished organist, accompanist, pianist, and teacher of voice and piano, she performed on-stage as well as many churches and many venues.
Moving to Southington in 1968, Mrs. Harris became an organist and choir director at the Grace Methodist Church. She taught piano and voice until the age of 94. She was the former president of Church Women United, leading the Least Coin Initiative and was an active member of the First Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Harris was predeceased by her husbands Lester H. Harris and Charles Neil Wade. She is survived by her 4 children; Gilbert, Patricia, Robert, Linda, and her beloved daughter-in-law Diane Wade; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-children.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday November 20, 2010 at 11am at the First Lutheran Church, 232 Bristol St., Southington. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations in Virginia's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Plantsville Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
