Vernon M. Austin, 88, formerly of Mill St., Southington died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Connecticut Baptist Homes Inc., Meriden. He was the husband of the late Hazel (Gregg) Austin.

Born Feb. 19, 1924 in Wytopitlock, ME to the late Ronello and Florence (Matthews) Austin, he had been a longtime Southington resident.

Mr. Austin served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Before his retirement he worked as a mechanic for Forestville Auto Body and Zolak Auto Supply.

He is survived by two sons, Russell Austin of East Hampton and Steven Austin, four daughters: Roberta Lasek, Karen Austin, Kathryn Austin all of Meriden and Laura Murray of Illinois; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Calling hours will be prior to the service from 4-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington.
