Suzanne Sroka Martin, 98, formerly of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday September 27, 2013 at Falmouth Hospital in Falmouth, MA.
Born April 17, 1915 in Cohoes, NY to the late John and Maria (Valigursky) Scensny, she had been a longtime Southington resident before moving to Cape Cod, MA to be closer to her family.
Mrs. Martin was a longtime parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church. She was known as the "Bread Angel" for her volunteer work at the Southington Bread for Life soup kitchen. She was a talented seamstress and loved crocheting.
Suzanne is survived by her daughter Suzanne Sroka and her husband Marvin Gerstenkorn of Sandwich, MA; her son Rudy Sroka and his wife Julie and her cherished grandson Robert, all of No. Royalton, OH. She also leaves behind her brother Paul (Jerry) Matava and his wife Noreen of Burlington, CT; her sisters Irene Bachman and Elizabeth Lusis and her husband George, all of Port Orange, FL and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Rudolph Sroka and her second husband Louis Martin; her step-father Paul Matava; her sister Rose Gorgen and brothers Edward, Thomas, and Robert Matava.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 4, 2013 at 10:30a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Southington. Calling hours will be held before the Mass from 9 - 10 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.
