Sophia "Sue" Sterniak, age 95, aka Sophie, of Southington, beloved wife for 72 years of Edmund J. Sterniak, retired CSP Trooper, passed peacefully at home on Monday July 6, 2015 while surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Britain, Sue was the daughter of the late Veronica (Puciowski) and John P. Klepacki. The family moved to a West Street farm in Southington in 1925. Sue attended the one room West Street School House. She walked along West and Spring Streets to get the bus at Queen Street. Sue graduated with Honors from Lewis High School in June 1939.
After graduation, Sue worked at Kay's Furniture Store on the Green. She then worked at New Departure in Bristol during WWII and after her children started school, at the Southington Tax Office. Her last position was Manager at the former Abby Theater in Southington.
Sue was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Church and its Holy Rosary Society. She was also a member of AARP and Southington Calendar House. Sue enjoyed playing golf with Ed, particularly during their 20 year snowbird experience in Sun City Center, FL. In her heyday, Sue could really kick up her heels doing a "Polka." She loved to try new recipes and was considered a good cook/baker. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, John and Veronica Klepacki, her older sister, Helen, and her younger siblings, John "Cleo" and Elizabeth "Betty" Klepacki.
She leaves her loving husband, Edmund, three children, Edmund Jr. and Susan, who reside in Southington, and Ronald, who resides with his wife, Nancy, in Michigan. In addition, Sue leaves two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Joel; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Erica; her brother, Joseph Klepacki and sister-in-law, Marie, who reside in Southington, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
