Sophia P. Smedley

Sophia P. Smedley, 87, of Vermont Ave., Southington died Sat. January 9, 2010 at the HCC at Bradley Memorial, Southington. She was the wife of the late Thomas Smedley.

Born Nov. 26, 1922 in Southington to the late John and Josephine (Cotoska) Pernal. She had been a lifelong Southington resident.

Mrs. Smedley was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church, Southington, retired from Rex Forge and worked as a nurses aid at Ridgewood Convalescent Center.

She is survived by her son Robert Smedley and his wife Marcia of Plantsville, her brother Walter Pernal and sister Jean Hopko both of Southington and sisters Anne McNamara of New Mexico and Rosie Guiliano of Meiden. She also leaves her two grandchildren Nathan and Jonathan Smedley.

Funeral services will be held Friday Jan. 15, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
