Shirley A. (McKay) Kizilski, 90, of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the HOCC at New Britain. She had been the loving wife of William R. Kizilski for nearly 69 years.
Shirley was born on January 13, 1935 in Meriden to the late Daniel A. and Theresa (DeLuco) McKay and lived all of her life in Southington.
Shirley graduated from Southington High School in June of 1952, serving as treasurer of her class twice. She met her childhood sweetheart, Bill, at the age of 16 and married him in 1956.
Shirley’s 29-year career in banking began in 1968 at the Citizen’s National Bank of Southington as a secretary. She went on to be an assistant cashier with the bank, managing the Queen Street office branch and then the Liberty Street branch for many years until mergers with the larger banks took her to Shelton and Hartford, eventually retiring in 1997. She also volunteered as the treasurer at Northern Little League for 29 years. Shirley loved trips to the casino and rooting for UCONN and the Boston Red Sox. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her delicious meatballs and the best cheesecake. She enjoyed traveling, taking several cruises and trips to Hawaii, Nevada, Bermuda, Aruba, Florida, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Shirley loved her family, especially her granddaughters, babysitting often and putting rollers in their hair for curls before church on Sundays!
In addition to her husband William, Shirley is survived by two sons, William J. Kizilski and wife Debra and Gary A. Kizilski and former daughter-in-law, Suzette Kizilski, grandchildren: Shelley Ann Ballester Lopez (Berto), Holly Theresa Turci (Josh), Amanda Rose Khzouz (Erik), Stacey Lynn Kizilski (Ryan Bailey), Dr. Shannen Kizilski (Priyatanu Roy) and great-grandchildren, Zackery and Elyssa Anderson and Sarah Morgan Khzouz.
