Rosemary A. (Scursso) Fox, of Berlin and former longtime Waterbury resident, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday February 25, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved spouse of David L. Fox for 54 years.
Rose was born on December 2, 1947 in Waterbury to the late Michael and Antoinette (DelBuono) Scursso. She attended grade school in Waterbury, CT, and graduated from Wilby High School, class of ‘65. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree at SCSU, she worked as a teacher in Cheshire, took time off to raise her children while working on her graduate degrees, and then returned to work as a school counselor in both Southington and Middlebury School Districts.
Rose had a passion for travel, exploring Europe, visiting National Parks across the Western U.S., and cherishing her annual beach trips to Cape Cod. She found joy in crafting, reading, taking walks, shopping, birdwatching—especially spotting cardinals—getting her nails done, and cheering for the UConn Huskies. Above all, Rose treasured time with her beloved husband, Dave, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life. Her greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren, with whom she shared countless cherished memories, fun surprises, and creative games. She will be remembered for her kindness, life long friendships, vibrant spirit, creativity, meticulous planning, attentive listening, and boundless love and generosity.
In addition to her husband Dave, she is survived by two children; daughter, Megan Johnson and her husband Mark of Berlin, and son, Peter Fox and his wife Kristin of Cincinnati, OH and six grandchildren, Emma and Luke Johnson, Catherine and Colin Fox, and Ben and Will Vincent. She is also survived by four siblings; Joseph Scursso and his wife Joanne of Southington, Johanna Norkus of Waterbury, Michael Scursso and his wife Cynthia of Las Vegas, NV and Ralph Scursso and his wife Hope of Woodstock, GA and many nieces and nephews. On her husband’s side, she will be greatly missed by her in-laws Jane Cooney, Bernadette Gwiazdoski and her husband Roland, Jim Fox and his wife Lorna, and several nieces and nephews.
Rose’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated team at Hartford HealthCare and Home Care for their compassionate support throughout her four-year battle with cancer. A special thank you to Nicole, her devoted aide, whose kindness and care brought comfort to Rose and her loved ones.
In honor of Rose’s memory, her daughter Megan will be running the 2025 New York City Marathon as a tribute to her beloved mother. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the American Cancer Society in Rose’s name. Contributions can be made at: https://mobileacs.org/5KwVCU/.
