Ronald O. Bates,78, of Southington passed away on Monday Oct. 26, 2009, after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 14, 1931 in New Britain to the late Elmer and Mildred (Orvis) Bates and was a true Valentine every day of his life. Ron was employed as a proud truck driver for most of his life at Suzio's, Uniroyal, F&F, Bozzuto's and Timex. He was an avid Yankees fan and loved visiting family and friends as often as possible. Ron was a proud Marine who served in the Korean War. He leaves behind his son, Michael Bates and his wife Kathleen of Meriden; daughters; Rhonda St. Martin and her husband Edmond of Southington, Susan Bates of Terryville and Nancy Bates of Brattleboro, VT; his sister Alma 'Sis' Vincent and husband Carl of Florida; two brothers Lowell Bates and wife Barbara also of Florida and Richard Bates and wife Ellen of Waterbury; his former wife Barbara Bates of Southington; his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many, many friends. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Kenneth 'Bud' Bates Sr. and Gerald 'Gerry' Bates Sr., his daughter Linda Bates Martin Socha and his close friend Jack Tully. Funeral services will be held Friday Oct. 30th, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial with full military honors will follow in West Cemetery, Plainville. Calling hours are Thursday Oct. 29th from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
