Roland J. Schwarz, 71, of Plantsville passed away unexpectedly on Sunday March 18, 2012 at Mid-State Medical Center. He had been the loving husband of Caroline (Bergerweiss) Schwarz for nearly 48 years.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany on November 22, 1940 to the late Karl and Hilde (Lang) Schwarz, he had been a longtime Plantsville resident.
Roland and Caroline came to the United States in 1964. He then took a job as a toolmaker at Berco Manufacturing and years later he retired from Electro Tech in Cheshire as a Partner. Roland was also one of the founding members of the Southington Youth Soccer League. Roland will be remembered for his love for his family and friends, especially his grandchildren who affectionately called him Opa. He enjoyed his retirement preparing taxes at H&R Block in Southington.
In addition to his wife Caroline, he is survived by his son Timothy Schwarz and his wife Karen of Hermosa Beach, CA, who are expecting their first child, and his daughter-in-law Corinne Schwarz and her fiancé© Frank DiBacco of Wethersfield. Opa also leaves behind six grandchildren: Matt, Sammy, Zach, Chris, Nikki and Joey. He was predeceased by his son Steven Schwarz.
