Robert Kowalczyk Sr

Robert Kowalczyk Sr., 84, of Southington passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the HCC at New Britain General. He had been the loving husband of Mary (Snow) Kowalczyk for 57 years.

Born in Meriden, CT on January 11, 1928 to the late William and Helen (Kleszcz) Kowalczyk, he had been a lifelong Southington resident.

Robert served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as an interior decorator/house painter for most of his life. For 60 years he touched the lives of people through his music. His professional music career captured the essence of him. He was a quiet man of music and loved to perform and watch the audience's response. He played at countless establishments near and far, including the Bushnell in Hartford. He collaborated with many gifted musicians, each one contributing to his lifelong love of playing his guitar.

In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by 3 sons: Robert Kowalczyk and his wife Lea of Southington; John Kowalczyk of Southington; Jim Kowalczyk and his wife Janet of Bristol and 2 daughters: Mary Petruzzi and her husband Michael and Eva Verrilli and her husband Anthony, all of Southington; seven grandchildren: Robert Kowalczyk, John Kowalczyk, Carleen Kowalczyk, Marc Kowalczyk, Joe Petruzzi, Jacob Petruzzi and Victoria Verrilli. He also leaves behind his sister Joan Koczon of Plainville, his brother Donald Grigerek of Farmington and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Bill Kowalczyk.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
