Raymond Somers, 89, of Southington and formerly of Danbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center of Connecticut. Raymond was the loving husband of the late Josephine (Mazza) Somers for 61 years.
Born on March 24, 1928 in Danbury to the late Raymond A. and Amanda (Couchevitz) Somers, he resided in his Beaver Brook home until he retired at age 62 from the National Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 488. He was a lifetime member of Beaver Brook Firehouse and loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his sons.
After his retirement, Ray and his wife resided in Vermont for 22 years. They loved traveling cross country in their camper and were avid ballroom and square dancers. They loved going to lunch every day, taking long rides and spending time with their family.
Ray is survived by his six children; Jo-Ann Keyes, Sharon Somers, Cindy Ballas, Raymond Somers Jr., David Somers and Donna Allen. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Bethel in the spring.
