Mary E. Kowalczyk

Mary E. (Snow) Kowalczyk, 92, lifelong Southington resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the Pines in Bristol. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Kowalczyk, Sr. for 57 years. 

Mary was born on January 18, 1932 in Bristol to the late Myron and Mary (Sweeney) Snow. In her younger years, she worked as a clerk at Plainville Hardware. 

Mary loved her family and was a very devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was happiest when family and friends gathered in celebration while enjoying her chocolate chip cookies; a legendary recipe known throughout the town of Southington. She was the first at the table when it was time to play LCR, her favorite party dice game. Playing the lottery or going to the casino also brought her great joy. Mary believed that Yahtzee and coffee were the best way to start the day. She will be remembered for her kindness and care for whomever crossed her path. She treated everyone that she met like family.

Mary is survived by 4 children, Robert Kowalczyk of Southington, Jim Kowalczyk of Bristol, Mary Petruzzi and her husband Michael of Plantsville and Eva Verrilli and her husband Anthony, both of Southington; seven grandchildren: Robert Kowalczyk, John Kowalczyk, Carleen Small (Paul), Marc Kowalczyk (Lindsey), Joe Petruzzi (Kennedy), Jacob Petruzzi and Victoria Verrilli and 4 great-grandchildren, Laila, Sophia, Aaron and Avery. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Nancy Goodrich and Katherine Meccariello and her husband Gennaro, both of Southington. 

In addition to her husband Bob, Mary was predeceased by her son, John Kowalczyk, 2 daughters-in-law, Janet Kowalczyk and Lea Kowalczyk, 2 sisters, Margaret Jurgelewicz (Theodore) and Elizabeth Statkiewicz (Edward) and brother-in-law, Francis “Sonny” Goodrich. 

Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon with a memorial service at 12 noon on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
