Marilyn "Marney" J. (Gallupe) Sperry of Plantsville, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on May 1, 2012. She was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Lena (Collins) Gallupe of Maine, a brother Wallace Gallupe, and a beloved great-niece, Brandice Poulopoulous.
Marilyn was born in Blaine, Maine on January 25, 1940, she grew up on a family farm in Presque Isle and moved to Connecticut in 1962 where she met Donald Sperry; they married in 1963. They settled down and raised their family in Plantsville and were happily married for 49 years.
Marilyn worked for many years in the insurance business, eventually retiring as the owner of the Phipps and Burns Inc. Insurance Agency. She was an active member of several civic organizations including the Southington Elks Lodge #1669 and also the Southington Falcon's Nest #307. She was an avid sports fan, supporting her favorite Uconn Women's basketball and her Boston Red Sox. In the 1970's Marilyn became the first female president of the Southington South Little League, and throughout retirement she enjoyed attending softball games and especially her grandchildren's ballgames.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Donald Sperry, her sons, Donald Jr. (Bernie) and his girlfriend Rebecca Skrzypiec, Carter Sperry and his wife Paige, all of Plantsville, and Derek Sperry and his wife Wendy of Plainville as well as eight treasured grandchildren: Kaelob, Tyler, Madison, Dylan, Connor, Everett, Tanner and Victoria Sperry. She is also survived by several siblings; Larry Gallupe and his wife Linda of New Britain, Esther Ackley, Laura and her husband Duane Valley of Maine, Dorothy and Dwight Valley, Sylvia and Robert Churchill, all of Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Marilyn will be dearly missed by her family, extended family and the many people that called her their friend.
