Maria Vecchio

Maria (Parillo) Vecchio, of Southington, passed away on her 86^th birthday, August 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Girolamo “Gino” Vecchio for 44 years.

Maria was born in Treglia, Italy, on August 2, 1937 to the late Antonio and Maria Carmela (Marra) Parillo and emigrated to the United States in 1956.

Maria’s love language was cooking. She enjoyed making homemade meals for her family, dancing to Italian music, gardening and sewing. Maria was truly the heart of her home. She was a longtime member of Mary Our Queen Church.

She is survived by 2 children; daughter, Gina Vecchio and son, Giovanni “John” Vecchio, both of Southington and 4 grandchildren, Jessica Schleicher and her husband Matthew of Tolland, Jennifer Christina Vecchio, Patrick Gino Fitzgerald and Kayla Marie Fitzgerald, all of Southington and two cherished great-granddaughters, Emerie and Amelia . She is also survived by her brother,  Giovanni Parillo (Maddalena) of Southington and Antoinette Casale (Michael) of FL, sisters-in-law;  Rosa Parillo of FL, Teresa Vecchio and Maria DiChello (Pasquale), both of Southington and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Gino, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Shaun Fitzgerald, 3 brothers; Antonio, Pasquale and Nicola Parillo, sisters-in-law; Civita Parillo, Elena Harrop (George), Rosa Scirocco (Attilio), Teresa Sabino (Joseph), Vincenza Pandolfo (Tomasso), Irene Vecchio (Giuseppe)  and brother-in-law, Antonio Vecchio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to the  "Maria Vecchio Memorial Fund" to help support medical expenses for her great-granddaughters Emerie and Amelia.  Donations may also be made at any Webster Bank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Mary Our Queen, 248 Savage St., Southington. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.   Calling hours will be held before the Mass from 8:30 a.m. – 10: 30 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
