Margaret Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of Christ, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 88.
Born on October 31, 1936, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Margaret was the daughter of Catherine Kay and Hurley Fummerton. In 1945, she followed her mother to Colón, Panama, where she attended an American high school in the Canal Zone—proudly standing out as the only Canadian in her class. In 1953, she moved to Connecticut to begin training as a nursing student, guided by her deep compassion for others and desire to serve.
On December 22, 1956, Margaret married Philip Smith, the love of her life. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring faith. She was predeceased by her husband and her parents.
Margaret is survived by her three sons: Bruce (wife April), Douglas (wife Betsy), and Scott. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Noelle, Andrew (wife Rachel), Haley (husband Shane), Zachary (wife Sophia), Eloise (husband Logan), Heather, McKenzie, William, Ian (Kamila), and Walter. She also cherished her role as great-grandmother to Macy, Baker, and Reece—with more surely to follow as the family she nurtured continues to grow.
More than any other relationship, Margaret’s life was defined by her love of Christ. Her faith was the foundation of everything she did—from how she raised her family to how she treated others with grace, humility, and kindness. She served faithfully as a Deacon in her church and was an active participant in the church community throughout her life. Whether leading Bible studies, preparing meals for those in need, or simply offering a listening ear, Margaret lived out her beliefs with quiet conviction and generous spirit. Her legacy of faith continues to inspire all who knew and loved her.
