Lorraine C. Norton, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday morning, October 22nd, 2016, after a brief stay at Hartford Hospital.
Lorraine was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, to the late Arthur Kirouac and Bertha (Gagne) Kirouac, and lived there for many years, but for over 45 years had called Southington, Connecticut her home.
Family and friends were her life, and she had enough love in her heart for everyone. For our family, she was our hub, truly the center focus...she was Nana. She touched so many with her spirit, kindness, wisdom, generosity and a little added humor on the side. She especially enjoyed the little ones.
She was always committed to giving of herself. With her empathetic and compassionate spirit, she became a Stephen Minister at St. Dominic's Church in Southington and also had been a hospice volunteer, comforting many with her gentle touch, kind words and soft singing voice. For many years, she was a member of the Cheshire Community Chorus, as she always loved singing.
Lorraine retired from the Southington Board of Education, as a devoted paraprofessional who took a personal interest in her students. During her career she also served tables at several local restaurants.
Lorraine was a devoted mother to her children, Deborah McCormack and husband William of Milton, NH, Steve Spaulding and wife Kathy of Derby, KS, Scott Spaulding of Wallingford, CT, and Michael Spaulding and wife Terry of Bristol, CT; a beloved Nana to her 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and a great, great grandson; and a caring sister to her brothers, Roger Kirouac and wife Lori of Manchester, NH, and brother Donald Kirouac and wife Mary of Merrimack, NH. She was predeceased by her sister, Rita Binette. She was also the former wife and good friend of the late Kenneth E. Norton. As a devoted friend of Bill W. for 27 years, she made many wonderful friends who were a second family to her. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
Lorraine's family wishes to acknowledge deep appreciation to all the staff at Hartford Hospital.
