Loretta M. (Walker) Smith, 97, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2021 after a short illness. She had been the loving wife of the late Edward S. Smith for 48 years.

Loretta was born on October 5, 1923 in Winsted, Ct to the late Matthew and Laura (Tallis) Walker. She was raised in Plainville and moved to Southington after her marriage to raise her family.

Loretta is survived by two children; daughter, Terri Smith and son, Richard Smith and his wife Charlene, all of Southington, and many nieces, nephews and close friends. In addition to her husband Edward, she was predeceased by three sisters and one brother.

Loretta spent much of her time volunteering at both Bradley Memorial Hospital and the Bradley Hospital Thrift Shop. She enjoyed gardening, walking, reading and ceramics and looked forward to weekly “book club” ceramic classes where she made many lasting friendships. She enjoyed concerts, musicals, going to the Goodspeed Opera House, Irish and country music. Through the Lions Club, she traveled with her husband to most states in the USA, including Hawaii, and Alaska. She also traveled to Europe and the Far East. Visiting her daughter who worked around the world, she traveled to Central America, Barbados, and Canada. She loved her dogs, birds, her home, and was devoted to her family.
