Lilah Meynell, 84, passed away on Wednesday May 28, 2013 at Southington Care Center. Lilah was born in Highgate,VT on February 27, 1929, the child of Gerald and Beatrice (Langton) Locke. Lilah graduated from the Fair Haven, Vermont High School in 1947. She attended the University of Vermont where she received a B.S. degree in secondary education in 1952. Her entire professional life was with the State of Connecticut. She spent first four years serving as a social worker with the Welfare Department. She then went on to work as a rehabilitation social worker for the Board of Education and Services For The Blind. Two years later, she transferred to the Judicial Department where she worked as a Juvenile probation officer in New Britain and Hartford.
Lilah is survived by her 3 sons and their wives: Peter and Lisa of Miranda, California; David and Linda of Southington and Paul and Susan of Sullivan, Maine. She has 7 grandchildren: Seth, Aaron, Jacob, David, Christopher, Benjamin and Elizabeth and 5 great-grandchildren: Miles, Maple, Talon, Nekhima and Scott. She also leaves behind a special niece, Beatrice Vowen and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 1, 2013 at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 145 Main St. Southington, CT 06489. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lilah's memory can be made to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, to the Child Fund International, (former Christian Children's foundation) 2861 Emenwood Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294 or to a charity of your choice.
