Leonard E. Smedberg

Leonard E. Smedberg, of Southington passed away on Saturday Nov. 21, 2009 in Cheshire. He was born on Dec. 12, 1931 and was the son of the late William R. and Alberta Elton Smedberg. He was raised in Southington and lived there his entire life. He retired from the former Southington Savings Bank where he worked for 37 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps as a medical corpsman during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Southington. Leonard is survived by his sisters, Carol Smedberg of Southington, Frances White and husband Robert of Bristol; brothers, George Smedberg and wife Virginia of Greensboro, N.C., and Lawrence Smedberg of Rocky Hill. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and special and dear friends: Judith Barkley of Burlington, David Heusel of Milldale, John and Helen Desorbo of Southington as well as many friends who have been close to him over the years. He was pre-deceased by a brother William E. Smedberg. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in South End Cemetery, Southington.
