Victory does not always mean the overcoming of an enemy. In fact, victory can mean demonstrating strength, courage, love, and kindness in the face of an adversity that has the upper hand.
Kylie Elizabeth Douglas Olean, 39, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 after a victorious battle against leukemia of 16 months. She lived life on her own terms, experiencing many jobs in the area and beyond. Kylie graduated from St. Paul High School in Bristol, CT and continued her education at The George Washington University, Southern Connecticut State University and Southern Illinois University. She studied International Affairs, Theatre, Literature and Linguistics. Most recently, she has taught Theatre, Study Skills, and English Composition at various surrounding colleges and universities.
Kylie has been an active member of St. Paul Episcopal Church of Southington for most of her life and considers her congregation as part of the family she leaves behind. Most dearly, Kylie leaves behind her two most precious children, Alexandra Spencer (14) and Edward Olean (5), both of Southington. She also leaves behind her father, Stephen Olean, of Southington; her brother, Kevin Olean of Cohoes, NY, as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and an amazing network of friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Kylie's honor may be made to a trust that is being set up for the children (see Kevin Olean at AlexAndEdwardTrust@gmail.com) or to the Smilow Cancer Center's Hematology Center, Office of Development, Yale-New Haven Hospital, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508-9979, which would be appreciated, as these amazing people kept Kylie going for 16 months more than she would have had.
