John A. Sokolnicki

John A. Sokolnicki, 72, of Madison passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, February 20, 2017 at St. Raphael’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Marcia (Giles) Sokolnicki for 39 years.

Born April 16, 1944 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late Leo S. and Stasia (Beldowicz) Sokolnicki, he had been a longtime Madison resident.

John graduated from Fairfield Prep and went on to UCONN where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist at Bradley Memorial Hospital and then at the family business, Centennial Plaza Pharmacy in Meriden, retiring in 1998. John loved books, music and sports, and spending time with his family and his many friends.

In addition to his wife Marcia, John is survived by a brother Leo Paul Sokolnicki and his wife Kathleen of Middletown, CT; his mother-in-law, Toni Giles Height of Southington; his brother-in-law, Tom Giles and his wife Janine of Hadley, MA; his sister-in-law, Luanne Giles Topper and her husband Michael of Hudson, NH and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Scranton Memorial Library, 801 Boston Post Rd, Madison, CT 06443.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington.
