John C. DeGumbia, 99, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Summit of Plantsville.

John was born on October 12, 1923 in Plantsville, one of 6 children, to the late Joseph and Josephine (Jalowecki) DeGumbia.

John received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army after proudly serving for a brief time during World War II. He worked as a machinist at New Departure, retiring at the age of 51 and enjoyed his retirement on the golf course. He also loved gardening and watching sports, especially rooting for his favorite team, the Miami Dolphins.  

John is survived by several nieces and nephews, including David DeGumbia, Joseph DeGumbia, Bernadette Leschinski, Elizabeth Marafino, Peter Sherba and Mary Karam. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 3 brothers, Vincent, Joseph and Stanley DeGumbia and 2 sisters, Stella Flood and Eleanor Sherba.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
