Joan (Derenthal) Parker, 84, of Southington passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 14, 2013 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the loving wife of the Wilford R. Parker for 51 years.
Born December 8, 1928 in Madison to the late John and Frederika (O'Connell) Derenthal, she had been a longtime Southington resident.
Joan was active in the Women's Club both in Southington and New Milford CT. She loved to travel with her husband and they visited all 50 states. She was a hairdresser and owned and operated Towne House Beauty Studio in New Milford, CT for about 15 years. Prior to her marriage, she had a career in the insurance industry. She loved photography, painting and enjoyed baking. She took great pleasure in walks along the beach.
She is survived by her son Lee Parker of New Haven and her daughter Lynn Marie Parker of Washington state. She also leaves behind her loving sister Beverly Lacert and her youngest brother Steve Derenthal. She was predeceased by her younger brother David Derenthal.
