Joan T. King

Joan (Theriault) King, 87, of Southington, CT,  passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Hartford Hospital. She had been the beloved wife of the late Allen L. King of Houlton, ME for 36 years. 

Joan was born in Southington, CT on August 6, 1936 to the late Charles and Florence (Leach) Theriault and had been a Southington resident for most of her life. She graduated from Southington High School in the Class of 1954. 

Joan worked as a bookkeeper at Viking Industries, retiring after many years of service. She loved watching sports, especially golf and her beloved NY Yankees. Joan enjoyed playing Bingo and Setback and was a talented crocheter, donating many baby blankets to hospitals over the years. Camping was a favorite pastime and Joan enjoyed sitting by the fire each evening.  Joan was very patriotic and enjoyed the time she spent volunteering at the Southington Food Pantry. 

Joan was extremely proud of her family and offered unconditional love. She is survived by four children: Brenda Halpin and husband William of Glastonbury with their daughters Lisa (Chris) and Kimberly (Luke),  Allen King and wife Sheila of Berlin with their sons Patrick (Nicole), Timothy and Colin,  William King and wife Vickie of NC and Thomas King and wife Heidi of SC with their daughters Kara (Rochelle) and Lauren.  She was also a loving great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, James Theriault and wife Anne of Southington, sister-in-law Josephine Theriault of Plantsville, brother-in-law, Donald Dorman of Forestville and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Allen, she was predeceased by her son, Rory King, four brothers, Charles Theriault (Ginny), Burton Theriault, Francis Theriault (Joan), Thomas Theriault (Wanda) and one sister, June Dorman.   

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Southington Community Services to benefit the food pantry, 91 Norton St., Plantsville, CT 06479. 

Calling hours will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home and the burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.
