James L. Hermann

James L. Hermann, husband of Diane Del Favero Hermann for 52 years, died at home on May 9, 2013 surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Leroy Hermann and Anna Stankevich Hermann, formerly of Marion.

Born in New Britain, Jim grew up in Marion and was a graduate of Southington High School. He served in the Army, was a member of the National Guard, a former member of Co. 4 Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of St. Aloysius Church.

He and his wife raised their sons, Mark (Denise) and Matthew (Mary Sue) on "the mountain." Both sons continue to live in Marion, raising Jim's grandchildren; Deirdre, Marc, Emma and Kyle Hermann. He is also survived by his brother William of Prospect, his sisters-in-law, Judith Bouchard of Meriden and Lucia Kelsey of Old Saybrook and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-brother Joseph Stanaitis.

Poppa was always ready with a smile and a few words of wisdom for his treasured grandkids. His life was devoted to his family and his love of the land in Marion. He was a talented woodcrafter whose many projects can be found in and around his home. He traveled extensively with his wife throughout the United States, Mexico, Peru, Europe and Canada, but his favorite place was in his yard having a cookout with all the kids.
