Our baby Ivy Breanna Rivera, ten days old, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024.
She was a fighter from the start, beating all odds when she came out breathing at 24 weeks, and even let out a little cry. Our daughter was the most beautiful baby we’ve ever seen. A perfect 50/50 of Naythan and I and she even came out with a good amount of hair.
We fell in love from the moment we saw her ultrasound but fell deeper in love the day we met her. In those 10 days, we learned a mother & father’s love. The type of unconditional love, where you would trade places with your baby if you could. In 10 days, we got to see her personality really show; she was tiny but fierce, always wiggling and swatting the nurses or pulling on her lines. At the same time, so relaxed and unbothered, we would often catch her with her hands behind her head like chicken wings or tucked under her chin. She was known for being so alert for her age and constantly opening her eyes looking around like she was being nosey.
It pains us as parents to not be able to watch our beautiful girl grow up; hear her laugh, watch her play and raise her to be a good woman; but we got 10 great days and we are thankful for that. Although many of you didn’t get a chance to meet our precious girl Ivy, we know she is very loved by each of you all. She knew nothing but love in her short amount of time here on earth. She’s loved by her Mom & Dad, grandparents, aunties and uncles, and the rest of her family. She was also loved by the nurses and doctors who took such great care of her at UConn.
Ivy is now with both of our families' angels and we know she is being well taken care of. We will miss our baby deeply and now know what parental love is. Ivy our girl, we promise to celebrate your life each year as if you were with us here on earth. Ivy, may you rest in eternal peace, free of pain. Mommy and Daddy love you more than words and are grateful you are our baby girl.
