Harold E. Kane

Harold E. Kane, 91, of Southington passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday September 9, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of Claire (Snyder) Kane. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary (Zoufaly) Kane.

He was born in Southington on April 14, 1919, to the late Veronica (Egan) Kane and James Edward Kane.

He attended Southington Schools and graduated from Pequot Business School. He attended the University of Maryland and completed the Advanced Management Course at the Graduate School of George Washington University.

Mr. Kane entered the Army on March 20, 1941, commissioned through the Officers Training Program at Ft. Benning, GA., August 19, 1942. He was subsequently commissioned as a Regular Officer in the US Air Force, stationed in Germany during the Berlin Air Lift. He was assigned to Hqs. Staff in the Pentagon for 4 years and was assigned to the Western Division of the Ballistic Missile Command. His final assignment was Strategic Air Command as Director of Manpower and Organization. He retired as a Colonel in 1964 after 23 years of Service.

In 1965, he formed the Kane Insurance Agency in Plantsville, which is now known as the Elliott Insurance Group. Mr. Kane was past president of the Rotary Club where he was a Harris Fellow and was recently voted as a lifetime Rotary member; former Trustee of Bradley Memorial Hospital; former director of United Way of Southington; Chairman of the Southington Drug Task Force, and member of the Board of Ethics, Southington. He was also active in many other civic, paternal and military organizations.

In addition to his wife Claire, he is survived by his son Dennis E. Kane and his wife Diana of Southington, his daughter Barbara K. DelGrego and husband Paul of Cheshire, his brother Joseph E. Kane and wife Agnes of Southington, and 2 grandchildren; Erin and Brian Kane.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 15, 2010 at 9:30am from the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours are Tuesday September 14, 2010 from 3-7pm at the funeral home.
