Harold J. Hoy, 75, of Southington, CT passed away on Sunday Nov. 8, 2009 with his loving wife, Jane at his side. The couple had been married nearly 50 years.
Hal was born Jan. 10, 1934 in Pine Grove, PA. To the late Harold and Naomi (Fehr) Hoy. He was a graduate of Penn State University, B.S; University of Hartford, M.B.A. in International Business and the University of Bradford (England), PhD in International Business. Harold was in management for both Montgomery Ward and D & L. He was a college professor for more than 25 years, teaching at UConn, UNH, CCSU, Mount Saint Mary's College and Elizabethtown College. He devoted 16 years to teaching at his beloved alma mater Penn State University. Harold was one of the advisors for the White Papers during the Reagan Administration. He was the Director of the Small Business Institute and the Small Business Administration of PA. He had a long history of service to the community which included being an Eagle Scout as well as serving in the US Army where he was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. In recent years he was a dedicated Captain in the Governor's Foot Guard, Hartford. As a Blue Lodge brother in the Masonic Fraternity, he earned his 50 year pin and 32nd Degree in Harrisburg, PA. He valued being a member of the Plantsville Congregational Church UCC.
Hal leaves his wife Jane B. Hoy and four daughters: Kathryn Burgess of Tucson, Az., Lisa Wermuth of Mequon, WI, Suzanne M. Hoy (Wong) of Southington, CT and Kristen Shugrue of Milford, CT. He also leaves behind two sisters, four sons-in-law, a brother- in- law and 11 grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Military Foot Guard and Masonic Remembrance Service of Harold's life at the Plantsville Funeral Home 975 S. Main St., Plantsville on Monday November 16th 2009 at 12:00 noon. Calling hours are prior to the service from 10-12:00 noon at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow in South End Cemetery, Southington. Donations in Harold's memory may be made to the Emma Davis Medical Ministry First Congregational Church, UCC, Milford, CT 06460 or to the Plantsville Congregational Church UCC, 109 Church St., Plantsville, CT 06479.
