Gertrude (Witt) Steinnagel, 94, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 29, 2014. She had been the wife of the late Arthur H. Steinnagel Sr. for over 40 years.

Born in Plantsville January 21, 1920, to the late Henry W. and Mary (Kaytor) Witt, she had been a lifelong Southington resident.

Gertrude was a 1937 Lewis High School graduate. She was a lifelong member at the First Lutheran Church and longtime Council member and Communion Assistant. She worked as a line supervisor at Allied Control and retired after 25 years of service.

Gertrude is survived by her three children: Truda Steinnagel of Middletown; Arthur H. Steinnagel Jr. and Irene Poirier of Bristol and Heidi Pickett and her husband David of Southington. She also leaves behind her 8 grandchildren who she always provided plenty of snacks for and taught to tie their shoes: Pam Wissenbach and her husband Tom; Melinda Hurle and Marcy Setter, Colleen Greim and her husband Gary, Tracy Baldino and her husband Gary, Andrew and Shannon Rittner, Philip Rittner and Robert McAlpin, Nathan Pickett and Amanda Pickett, and 4 great-grandchildren: Eryn Wissenbach and Nicholas, Ava, and Amelia Rittner. She was predeceased by two sisters: Henrietta Aldi and Maryann Zajac and her brother Henry Witt Jr..

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gertrude's memory may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 232 Bristol St., Southington, CT 06489.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday April 4, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church, 232 Bristol St., Southington. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held on Thursday April 3, 2014 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
