George J. LaCourse

George J. LaCourse, 95, of Southington, CT., died on January 27, 2013 at the Masonicare Health Center, in Wallingford, CT. He was born on July 13, 1917 in Hartford, CT and raised in Bristol, CT. He was the son of George John and Mary C. (Murray) LaCourse. He was predeceased by his wife of more than 40 years, Margaret Elodie (Riordan) LaCourse.

George served in the U.S. Army from 1941 until his honorable discharge in July, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in the Pacific Theatre.

George lived in Southington on LaCourses's pond, also known as the Wonx, for most of his life. He loved the outdoors and took pride in caring for this area. Here he raised his 5 children. He is survived by them and their families: George J. and his wife Kathy of Jupiter, FL; J. Michael of New York City; Elodie Mosel and her husband Richard of Plantsville, CT; John and his wife Gail of Hackensack, NJ and Richard and his wife Susan of Laurel, MD. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Michelle, John, Ruth, Cathy and Cathleen; and 2 sisters: Jeanne Edwards of Bristol, CT and her children Laura and Hank; and Ellaine LaCourse of CA and her sons Anthony, Michael and Gennaio.

George was known for his love of big dogs; his last and favorite was Herk.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday Jan. 31, 2013 at 10:15 a.m. from the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville with a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bristol. There are no calling hours.
