Frances M. Child

Frances Louise (Mumford) Child passed away in the early morning of March 29. She was born in Springfield, the daughter of Emily Mumford, and was raised in East Longmeadow, MA. She attended the High School of Commerce in Springfield followed by Rider College in Trenton, NJ.

Fran married childhood sweetheart, Art, after he returned from WWII and they resided in Springfield and subsequently in East Longmeadow. Fran spent her working life as an executive secretary in several locations, her favorite of which was at the corporate office of Friendly Ice Cream. Following Art's retirement from the Springfield Fire Dept., they moved to Chatham, MA where Fran enjoyed life on the Cape for 25 years before relocating to Southington, CT. While in Chatham, Fran was active in the Congregational Church, the Gardening Club and volunteered to do mobility therapy for a special needs child. She enjoyed digging clams and left a legacy of beautiful hand stitched quilts. Fran and Art traveled extensively and enjoyed seeing much of the US as well as England and the Caribbean. Fran was an avid reader and followed current events in her daily newspaper. She even survived Covid one year ago!

Fran was predeceased by Art and leaves behind her children, Dr. A. Robert Child, daughters Judy and Emily and Judy's husband Hank, who she considered to be her second son. She also leaves granddaughters Emilie, her husband Bill and great grandsons Max, Quinn and Jack and granddaughter Meg and her husband Steve.

Donations in Fran's name can be made to the Connecticut Draft Hores Rescue. Thank you. (https://ctdrafthoreserescue.org/donate) Funeral services will be held privately.
