Florence St. John

Florence R. (Dumais) St. John, 99, of Southington, CT, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Summit at Plantsville. She was reunited with her beloved husband George St. John Sr. who predeceased her in 1993. 

Florence was born on September 10, 1924 in Quebec, Canada to the late Joseph and Marie-Anne (Levesque) Dumais. 

She grew up in Quebec and worked as a telegrapher.  Florence enjoyed sharing stories with her family from these days when she worked on the Canadian National Railway. At the age of 28, she married the love of her life and moved to Maine to start a family. Florence and George raised their 5 children in New Britain and Southington. Florence was a loving mother and enjoyed hosting the neighborhood kids at her home. She was also a longtime parishioner of St. Dominic’s Church in Southington.

Florence is survived by her son, George St. John Jr. and wife Cheryl of Plymouth, twin sons, Earl St. John of Vernon and Irvin St. John and wife Jaime of Hinsdale, NH, 1 grandson, Matthew St. John, 4 granddaughters, Maggie St. John, Amber Jones, Heather Stein and Susan St. Germaine, her great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband George, Florence was predeceased by her son Carroll St. John, her daughter Michelle St. John and 7 siblings; Andre, Carmen, Jackie, Rolande, Marcel, Alin and Moririce.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m.  on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at St. Dominic’s Church, 1050 Flanders Rd, Southington. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington.
