Eugene T. Sullivan Sr., 81, of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. He was the loving husband of Mary Jane (Bickerdike) Sullivan for 57 years.
Born December 22, 1932 in Hartford to the late John Joseph and Mary Josephine (Geary) Sullivan, he was a longtime Southington resident.
Gene proudly served his country stationed in Germany in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After active service he served in the Airguard stationed at Bradley Field. He was a member of the American Legion Post 72 in Southington.
Gene grew up in Hartford, attended St Joseph Cathedral School and graduated from Weaver High in 1950. Following his Air force Service he attended Western New England College and began a career in the insurance industry at The Hartford Insurance Group. He led the Special Accounts Division and was an Officer in the company.
Gene was very active in the community and church. He enjoyed playing cards and all sports but especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in all their activities.
In addition to his wife Mary Jane, he is survived by his children Dr. Joan Palladino of Watertown, Tim Sullivan and his wife Christi of Berlin and Cathy Lawrence and her husband Milt of Burlington, Peg Ober and her husband Steve of Weston, MA, Mary Oliviera and her husband Mario of Medford, MA, and Ann Marie Sullivan of Plantsville. He also leaves ten grandchildren, Marie Butterly and her husband Rory, Larry Palladino, Casey, Ali and Sean Sullivan, Katie and Megan DeLucco, Grace Lawrence, Sarah and Jessica Ober. He also leaves 2 great-grandchildren, Jack and Brody Butterly.He also leaves his brother James Sullivan and his wife Jane of Cromwell and his sister Maureen Kerrigan of Florida.He was predeceased by his brother John Sullivan and sisters, Ann Lynch and Elizabeth Madore.
Gene's family would like to thank the entire staff at both the Hospital of Central Connecticut Intensive Care Unit and the Hospital for Special Care for their excellent care and compassion.

Main St., Plantsville with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 from 4 -7 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home.
