Eileen (Bannon) Turek

Eileen (Bannon) Turek died peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2014 following a long illness. She was born in Waterbury on May 16, 1922, the daughter of the late Tobias F. Bannon Sr. and Catherine (Rafter) Bannon. She attended Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury and graduated in 1940.

Eileen was employed at the U.S. Time and subsequently at Waterbury Corrugated as an office manager. In later years, she was employed at Jacob Manufacturing from which she retired. She lived in Meriden, Berlin and Southington at various times and was active in Senior Citizen Centers where she was always willing to "pitch-in" when needed. She often volunteered at local Blood Drives and enjoyed teaching Religious Education at St. Paul's Church in Kensington. For many years she assisted her late brother, Reverend Joseph R. Bannon at the St. Dunstan Church Rectory in Glastonbury.

She enjoyed making crafts and especially loved spending time with her many nieces and nephews. Eileen entertained them at her lakeside home in Berlin as well as her beach cottage in Milford. She was known to spoil them and cherished doing so. "Aunt Ei" will always be remembered for the love she gave to each generation of our family's children.

Eileen leaves one sister, Catherine "Kay" Bannon O'Hara and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers: Tobias Jr., James, John and the Reverend Joseph R. Bannon, and one sister, Mary Bannon Waters, formerly of California.
