Edward D. Michaels, 90, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Autumn Lake in New Britain. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (Hawran) Michaels for 66 years. He was a long-time resident of Southington, CT for 58 years.
Edward was born in New Britain, CT on September 9, 1933 to the late Walter and Frances (Rutkowski) Mikolajczyk. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, Special Class 6 in the Military Tank Division, during the Korean War, where he was recognized with a host of accolades. He was employed by Prudential Insurance for 42 years and retired in 1993.
Edward spent all of his free time in retirement with his wife Mary, watching his grandkids grow up who were actively involved in sports, dance, and school related activities. He also enjoyed watching his New York Yankees and was a dedicated fan of both the men and women’s UCONN Basketball teams. Edward will be remembered for being a loving husband and supportive dad and grandpa.
Edward is survived by three sons, Michael Michaels and his wife Tracey of Glastonbury, David Michaels and his wife Ann Marie of Bristol, and Timothy Michaels and his wife Bridget of Southington and 6 grandchildren, Cameron Michaels, AJ Michaels (Charlotte), Brianna Michaels, Jarrett Michaels (Gabrielle) and Hannah and Jacob Michaels. He is also survived by one sister, Hattie Conlon of Southington and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Edward was predeceased by 4 sisters, Jean Sadowski, Bernice Finn, Pauline Duszak and Eleanor Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday July 29, 2024 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Southington. Burial with military honors will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held before the service from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
