Edward Knight

Edward Knight, 84, of Southington died Wednesday January 12, 2011 at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of the late Winnifred (Kennett) Knight for nearly 50 years.

Born on June 22, 1926 in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Alfred G. and Elsie (Harrison) Knight, he had been a long time Southington resident.

Edward is survived by his two children: Doris Height and her husband Doran Jr. of Plantsville and Alfred G. Knight II and his wife Emilyn of Hot Springs, AR; 5 grandchildren: Jennifer L. Height and Craig E. Height, both of CT, Heather R. Knight of Louisiana, Stephen E. Knight and Jonathan R. Knight both of Louisiana, and both currently serving in the US Army in Afghanistan, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother George K. Knight and sister Margaret (Knight) Neelans.

He was a member the Masonic Friendship Lodge 33 and the Scottish Rite. He was also active in the Frederica Chapter No. 110 of the Eastern Star, Plainville. Edward worked for Northeast Utilities for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He was known affectionately as 'Grumpy' to his loving grandchildren.

A memorial service in Edward's memory will be held on Saturday January 22, 2011 at 12 noon at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. There are no calling hours. Burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill, at the convenience of the family.
