Edward F. Kloczko

Edward F. Kloczko, 92, of Southington, died on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Cheshire Regional Rehab Center.

He was born on January 29, 1924 in Southington to the late Benjamin (Bronislaw) and Mary (Kasparewicz) Kloczko.

He was a lifelong resident of Southington. He attended schools in Southington and Wilcox Vocational School in Meriden. He joined the U.S. Navy in January 1943. During WWII, Edward saw action aboard the cruiser USS Philadelphia in the Mediterranean Sea as a Petty Officer 2nd Class; taking part in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, Anzio and Southern France. His ship was credited with downing 15 German Planes. Mr. Kloczko earned 14 service medals and 7 letters of commendation, including one from General George Patton. Edward was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict, serving aboard the destroyer USS Darby.

He retired from the former Buswell Metal Products Company as a tool maker and department supervisor. Edward was a lifetime member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars. Edward enjoyed and took pride in working around his "show place" yard and flower gardens. He also enjoyed watching the many birds that fed in the numerous birdfeeders placed in his yard. Edward was often quoted as saying, "I have had a good life...especially in my retirement." Throughout his life, Ed had many friends due to his outgoing and friendly personality. He was forever smiling and often volunteered to help his friends, neighbors and family when the occasion called for it. He also took pleasure in seeing his new friends and caregivers at Mulberry Gardens where Ed participated in Adult Day Care activities and at the Highlands Rehab Facility in Cheshire, where he often spoke thankfully of the caring staff. He also enjoyed his two Havanese dogs; Carlee and Skipper and missed his devoted (deceased) mini Schnauzer of 14 years, Frisky.

He was a faithful parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church. Edward donated to the church a set of specially designed interior doors in memory of his deceased parents, who immigrated from Wiszniewo/Vilna, Poland, and were former parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church.

He leaves a son, Glenn, who he was very proud of and who he brought up as a single parent and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Chester Kloczko and sisters: Wanda Kloczko, Mary DiNello and Helen Turek.

Main St., Plantsville with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Plantsville.
