Edward J. Aszklar

Edward “Eddie” J. Aszklar, 82, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Southington Care Center. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Dow) Aszklar for 56 years.

Edward was born on June 17, 1942 in New Britain, CT to the late Edward and Jean (Hika) Aszklar. He started his career at Aszklar’s Automotive, where he was affectionately known as “Oscar,” and then worked for various garages before taking a position as a hydraulic mechanic at Northeast Utilities, eventually retiring after 25 years of service. He also served as the groundskeeper at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Southington. 

Eddie was a huge NASCAR fan and traveled all around the country to see the races, including Daytona, Phoenix, Michigan, Dover and the All-Star race in Charlotte. He was a master tinkerer and could fix anything. For many years, he would visit tag sales, garage sales and auctions, alongside Barbara, in search of someone else’s trash to turn into a treasure. As an avid outdoorsman, Eddie loved to hunt and fish and was a longtime member of the Bristol Fish and Game Club, where he earned a perfect score in trapshooting. 

In addition to his wife Barbara, Eddie is survived by his son, Paul Aszklar and his wife Tracy and two grandchildren, Brendan and Ryan Aszklar, all of Cranford, New Jersey, and a large loving extended family.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S.
