Edward R. Chubet, 90, of Southington passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday July 29, 2013. He had been the loving husband of the late Florence A. (Billingham) Chubet, for 61 years.

He was born September 23, 1922 in Norwood, MA to the late John J. and Mary E. (Clem) Chubet, and was one of eight children: John, Alice, Elinor, Edward, Marion, Lawrence, Robert and Barbara. He had been a Southington resident since 1951.

Edward proudly served his country in the U. S. Coast Guard during WWII aboard the Destroyer Escort USS Menges in the Mediterranean Sea. He graduated from Brown University with a Bachelors Degree in Economics and went on to RPI for his post-graduate studies. He retired in 1987 from his position as President at Clark Brothers Bolt Company after 35 years of service.

Edward was very active in the community. He was a founder of the Southington Southern Little League and a member of the American Legion Kiltonic Post 72, the Lion's Club, the Elk's Club and President of the Nutmeggers Association. He was a longtime member of the Southington Country Club where he played with the Brother Bills and a charter member of Mt. Grove Swim Club. Edward was a sports enthusiast and passed on his passion to his family. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and great-children. Edward will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by ten children: Michael Chubet; Robert Chubet and his partner Rose Tomasetti; Anne Chubet-Mangiacopra and husband Anthony; Elizabeth Hennessey and husband James; Richard Chubet and wife Kathleen; James Chubet; Thomas Chubet and wife Elizabeth; Joseph Chubet and wife Susan; Katherine Mason and husband Dr. Brian Mason; Christopher Chubet and wife Lucia and his special daughter-in-law Lorraine Chubet and daughter-in-law Diane Chubet; 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday August 2, 2013 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will be in South End Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday August 1, 2013 at Plantsville Funeral Home.
