Edward A. Aszklar, 89, of Southington, passed away on Wednesday November 9, 2011 at the HCC at Bradley Memorial. He had been the loving husband of Ann (Tomczak) Aszklar for 62 years.

Born on December 4, 1921 in Southington to the late George and Amelia (Anczak) Aszklar, he had been a lifelong Southington resident.

Edward joined the US Army Air Force at the age of 21. He served his country during WWII, stationed at Hickman Field in Hawaii where he put his mechanical knowledge to work on the B-17 Bombers. As a young man, Edward had a passion for mechanics. One of his favorite hobbies was working on and riding his motorcycles, especially Harleys and Indian Motorcycles. Upon his return home from his military service, he worked at several businesses. In 1956 he decided to start his own, Aszklar's Automotive Service, that he would run for the next 50 years. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his honesty and as a man who was always willing to help others.

In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by his son Mark Edward Aszklar of Southington, and his daughter Elizabeth Jane McLaughlin and her husband Dr. Robert T. McLaughlin of East Hampton; his 4 cherished grandchildren: Matthew E. Aszklar, Tanner A. Aszklar, Kimberly Ann McLaughlin, and Julie Elizabeth McLaughlin; his brother-in-law and special friend William Lee of Southington, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 4 brothers: John, Henry, Frank, Walter and his 3 sisters: Anna, Josephine, and Frances.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday November 12, 2011 at 11:00am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Southington. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Southington. There are no calling hours. Plantsville Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
