Doreen Joyce Sward

Doreen Joyce (Fries) Sward, 67, of Southington, passed unexpectedly on Monday, June 22, 2020 at the HOCC at New Britain. She was the loving wife of George W. Sward Jr. for 38 years.

Doreen was born on January 12, 1953 in Meriden to the late Donald B. and Lorraine (Harriott) Fries and she had been a longtime Southington resident.

Doreen graduated from Southington High School, Class of 1971. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and trips to Disney. She had many hobbies including baking, cake design, working with glass, knitting and crocheting. Most of all, she loved her family and looked forward to trips to California to visit her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband George, Doreen is survived by 3 children, Lonnie DiNello of West Hartford, Matt Sward and his wife Sarah of West Haven and Keith Sward and his wife Cathleen of CA and two grandchildren, Millie and Chrissy. She is also survived by two brothers, James Fries and his wife, Sandra, of East Hampton and Frederick Fries and his wife, Maria, of Cocoa Beach, FL.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020 at OAK HILL CEMETERY, Southington. Calling hours will be held before the service from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St, Plantsville.
