David P. McNiel

David Paul McNiel, 60, of the Plantsville section of Southington, CT, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. 

David was born in Greenville, South Carolina on January 25, 1964 to Audra (Kanzigg) McNiel and the late Donald A. McNiel. 

He spent his earliest years in South Carolina and North Carolina and moved to Connecticut at the age of 15. David graduated from RHAM High School, Class of 1982, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut, where he was active in the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Professionally, David enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry. Personally, David was defined by his intelligence and was known for his quick wit and humor. He was generous to his family and friends, and he cared more about people than about material items. David enjoyed watching movies, reading, cooking, and bowling. He was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, deeply appreciated the beauty of nature, and was a true animal lover. David will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. 

In addition to his mother Audra McNiel of Hebron, CT, David is survived by his sister, Laura M. DiLullo and her husband Michael of Farmington, brother, W. Mark McNiel and his wife Judith of Glastonbury, and two nephews, Nicholas DiLullo and his fiancé Emma Frawley and Christopher DiLullo. He is also survived by many great friends, including his treasured friend, Daren Mauro of Plantsville. In addition to his father Don, he was predeceased by his beloved pug, Mollie, who was the love of his life.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
