Clarence W. Cyr, 88, of the Plantsville section of Southington died Sat. Jan. 8, 2011 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General. He was the husband of Rita Mae (LaPoint) Cyr for 66 years.
Born April 22, 1922 in Ft. Fairfield, Maine to the late Joseph Cyr and Agnes (Jackson) Cyr he had been a long time Southington resident.
Mr. Cyr served his country during WWII in the United States Army and was a very good mechanic. Until retiring he worked as a machinist at the former Marlin Rockwell, Plainville, CT.
In addition to his wife Rita, he is survived by his eight children and their spouses: Patti and Bob Kalat, Betty and Jacques Houle and Wayne and Cindy Cyr all of Bristol and Joanne and Fred Smith, Joyce and Tom Luedke, Joe and Debi Cyr, Mark and Marisa Cyr and Lisa and Shawn McCullough all of Southington; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and two step-brothers, Harold Cyr and Robert Stimis both of Maryland.
He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters, his grandson Steven Cyr and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Steven Cyr's memory may be made to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Jan. 11, 2011 at 9 a.m. from the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held Monday Jan. 10, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
