Charlotte E. Hammick

Charlotte E. (Ashworth) Merriman Hammick, otherwise known as “Nanny”, 91, of Southington passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the UConn Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Charlotte was born on September 16, 1932, in Hartford to the late George A. and Florence Bell (Heap) Ashworth. 

She loved sewing, reading, and going to the theater. Charlotte enjoyed spending time at the beach with her family in Charlestown RI, Cape Cod and New Hampshire. She was an avid traveler, having travelled across the U.S. including Europe. She enjoyed her evenings playing cards and swimming in her pool with all her family and friends.  Nanny loved including her grandchildren in every aspect of her life.

Charlotte’s family would like to thank Dr. Foley, Dr. Leon, Dr. Ciardella, Prosper and all the caretakers who have provided her loving care over the years.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter Violet Skrzyniarz of Cheshire, 6 grandchildren, Tara (John), Marleen (Paul), Holly, Todd (Danielle), Cory (Nicole) and Shawn, 6 great grandchildren, Christian, Hailey, Nichole, Addison, Ethan, and Beckett, her sister Betty of MA, and 2 step sons, Kenneth (Tanya), William (Joyce), 4  step daughters, Kim, Kathleen, Karen (Joe), Brenda and extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband, William Hammick, Charlotte was predeceased by her first husband, Dudley Merriman, her daughter, Faith, 2 brothers; Alfred and Cecil, 2 sisters in-law; Claire and Eleanor, brother in-law Leroy and son in-law, Phillip.

Calling hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 and 11a.m. - 12 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. A funeral service will be held at 1p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at the First Congregational Church, 111 Church Street, Cheshire.
