Benjamin W. Doerfler, 93, of Southington died Wednesday May 9, 2012, at Highland Health Care.
Born in Meriden, November 17, 1918, he was the son of the late Frank F. and Martha (Isbell) Doerfler. He graduated from Lewis High School in Southington, and Hillyer College/Univ. of Hartford. He was a Human Resources Manager at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington and later at Allied Control in Plantsville. He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII, aboard the USS Vincennes in the Atlantic, then as a drill instructor at Parris Island, and Villanova, PA for the V12 program. Later in the war, he served aboard the ET Collins in the Pacific.
During his retirement years he pursued his hobbies, gardening and carpentry. He remodeled and built furniture for a number of families/friends in the community. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Doerfler Sr. in 2004.
He is survived by his wife of sixty nine years, Shirley Andres Doerfler, his daughter, Lynn D. McLaughlin and son-in-law Thomas, a son Peter Doerfler and daughter-in-law Gail H. Doerfler of Southington, a brother-in-law Russell Andres and his wife Barbara and eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Benjamin's name may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday May 12th at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial with full military honors will follow in South End Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held on Friday May 11, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Plantsville Funeral Home.
