Barbara R. Waterman, 69, of Southington died peacefully on October 16, 2009 at the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Connecticut, Southington.
Barbara was born on May 21, 1940 in Malden, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Raymond Waterman and Mary (Brooks) Waterman and had lived in Southington for the past 35 years.
She graduated with degrees from Leslie College, Boston University and St. Joseph College. Barbara taught at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts, then worked as a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Handicapped for the State of Connecticut, and finally in the Bristol Public Schools, from which she retired in 1998.
Barbara was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She volunteered for the Friends of the Library in Southington. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting and was a voracious reader.
Barbara is survived by a brother, John F. Waterman, and his wife, Belinda, of Remsenburg, New York. She also leaves behind many family members and friends, including Donna Storms, with whom she made her home.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday October 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 121 Pleasant St., Southington. Calling hours are Monday October 19, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. A private burial will be held in the family plot in Stepney Cemetery, Monroe, CT.
