Alvin W. vonFrisch

Alvin W. vonFrisch, 89 of Southington died Sat. November 14, 2009 at the HCC at Bradley Memorial, Southington. He was the husband of the late Arline (Smith) vonFrisch. He was born in Giessen, Germany lived in Connecticut since 1927. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, The Rev. Robert and Karen vonFrisch and three grandsons, Matthew and his wife Deana, Andrew and Joshua vonFrisch and a great-granddaughter, Madisyn, all of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law Loretta Smith of Southington; several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and great grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Mr. vonFrisch served in the U.S. Army, 7th Division, 17th Infantry during World War II, serving in the Aleution and Pacific areas. He was a sergeant and received a bronze star in action. He was formerly a supervisor of Tool Engineering for General Electric in Plainville until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Southington and a former assistant treasurer of the church, an honorary council member after 20 years of service , a member of the Finance Committee and a communion assistant. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge AF&AM #33 in Southington for over 50 years, the Calendar House and was a bowler and golfer with the Senior Leagues. Funeral services will be held Wed. Nov. 18, 2009 at 11:00 o'clock at the First Lutheran Church, 232 Bristol St., Southington. Burial with full military honors will follow in South End Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours on Wed. morning prior to the service at the Lutheran Church from 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 232 Bristol St., Southington 06489.
