Albert J. “Butch” Simons, 77, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at his home. He was the loving husband of Diane (LeVasseur) Simons for nearly 57 years.
Albert was born on January 4, 1947 in Derby, CT to the late Albert and Valerie (Ivanauskas) Simons. He attended Waterbury schools and Kaynor Technical High School. Butch followed in his father's footsteps and was a Master Mechanic and member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 478 for many years.
Butch had a need for obtaining that adrenaline rush. From racing his jet boat in his earlier years to burning gas in his recent pride and joy the ‘67 El Camino. Special times were spent alongside his son Mike as they restored not one, but two classic El Caminos. Butch also enjoyed summer days in Rhode Island at the family cottage, fishing, camping on the CT River, waterskiing, and was a master pig roaster among many other talents. However nothing was greater than Butch’s love for his family and friends. He absolutely adored his great granddaughter Parker and his grandkids. He was a great mentor and was known as “Papa” to so many of his kid’s friends who described him as one in a million and were blessed with wonderful childhood memories thanks to him and Diane. He will be forever missed and never forgotten by them all.
In addition to his wife Diane, Butch is survived by 3 children, Michael Simons and wife Rebecca of Southington, Darcy Dec of Bradenton, FL and Anthony Simons of Enfield, 3 grandchildren, Brian Simons of Southington, Hayden Curter (Christopher) of TX and Ciara Dec of FL and one cherished great-granddaughter, Parker Lyn Curter. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Patricia Houle (Philip) of SC, Helen Sioch (John) of FL and Margaret Fuhringer (Michael) of MI, 2 sisters-in-laws, Linda Winter of Bristol and Darlene LeVasseur of Plantsville, 2 nieces, Noreen Patterson (Lenny) and Lisa Carlone (Dominic) and 2 nephews, Joseph and Jason Sioch. In addition to his parents, Butch was predeceased by one nephew, John Sioch.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice may be made in Butch’s memory.
